Emirates Gastroenterology & Hepatology Society

A subspecialty society of the Emirates Medical Association.

The Emirates Gastroenterology & Hepatology Society was formed in 1995 as a subspecialty society of the Emirates Medical Association (EMA), with the aim of advancing the science and practice of digestive diseases through professional collaboration among doctors in the UAE with an active interest in the field.

The Society meets monthly, with programs covering clinical problems related to the specialty, and holds an annual international conference bringing together practitioners from around the world.

Emirates Medical Association

The governing umbrella body for medical subspecialty societies in the UAE.

Emirates Medical Association was established in 1981 as a non-profit organization of health practitioners. EMA supervises and conducts scientific training, events and conferences, and approves the establishment of scientific societies for health specialties under its umbrella — EGHS among them. EMA is headquartered in Dubai with a branch in Abu Dhabi.

Connected to leading international bodies in digestive health.

EGHS holds four global affiliations. The Emirates Medical Association is EGHS’s governing body and is covered separately under Governance above.

  • EGHS holds a formal collaborative affiliation with WGO. Member benefits include access to the e-WGN quarterly publication and monthly e-Alert, participation in the World Congress of Gastroenterology and Train the Trainers programs, global promotion of EGHS events, and a vote in the WGO General Assembly.

  • EGHS holds a formal collaborative affiliation with ESGE. Benefits include reduced registration at ESGE events, a subscription to the Endoscopy journal, eligibility for ESGE fellowship and research grants, and promotion of EGHS's annual event through ESGE channels.
